How do I setup Secure E-mail?
Simplehost offers E-mail services with the security of SSL encryption.
Server Settings
POP3s: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 995
IMAPs: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 993
SMTP TLS: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 25 / 587
SMTP SSL: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 465
Please see the instructions below for your E-mail client. If your client is not listed here please contact us if you require assistance setting this up.
This will guide you through configuring secure e-mail services on an existing e-mail account.
Note - If you use Telecom/Xtra or Orcon as your ISP, or an ISP that filters port 25 you will need to send outgoing email (SMTP) using your ISPs mailserver we explain this in Sending email from Telecom
Thunderbird
Open up Thunderbird.
SMTP Section
- From the top toolbar click Tools > Account Settings
- Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
- Click the Edit button after selecting your email address in the list.
Ensure the "Server Name" field is set to: mail.simplehost.co.nz
- Tick the box labelled "Use name and password" - this is optional, but recommended. You can still send e-mail while authenticated via pop-before-smtp.
Note these options may differ slightly between versions - we used V3.0.4
For SMTP there are two options. STARTTLS or SSL/TLS - essentially these are the same, the main difference is that SSL/TLS will require the use of port 465, where STARTTLS will work on either of the standard SMTP ports 25 or 587. If you are not sure, use SSL/TLS.
- Select your choice of STARTTLS or SSL/TLS
- Click OK
