How do I login to SSH?
NOTE: As a security standard at simplehost your SSH account will not be enabled until you request it. Please request this from support to have this enabled.
To login to any SSH server you will need an SSH Client.
A free and easy SSH client by the name of PuTTY is used commonly.
You can obtain the latest copy of putty from:
http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe
Once downloaded, open up PuTTY.
- If you plan to use SSH to simplehost more than once it is best to save the settings, so this FAQ will guide you through saving the server settings for simplehost.co.nz.
Once PuTTY is started, you will get the main screen.
Under "Hostname or IP Address" enter:
- host.simplehost.co.nz
The host part of the domain name above will be the same host you use to connect to for FTP, this is the server your website is hosted on. You can find the correct host by logging into your My Account and clicking the 'Server Settings' link.
- Tick the "SSH" radio button.
Under "Saved Sessions" enter a name for this connection.
- Click Save
You can Click "Open" to start an SSH connection to simplehost or do it later. You can double-click on simplehost to start a connection or click "Load" once highlighted.
- You will be prompted to enter your login name and password to gain access to the shell.
